Service Projects

The Rotary Club of Charlotte is very active in both local and international service projects. In Charlotte our members develop, support, and fund-raise for many worthwhile projects. Our members believe “Service Above Self” is not only the club motto but a true vocation.

Charlotte Tree Planting

For almost a decade, the Rotary Club of Charlotte has led and sponsored planting trees around Charlotte.  Each year we plant between 200 and 400 plus trees helping our partner TreesCharlotte meet their goal of replacing much of Charlotte’s tree canopy.  Rotary has a rich history of planting trees since the days of its first International President, Paul Harris.  Paul planted “friendship” trees all over the world.  Paul and six other RI Presidents have planted ‘”friendship” trees at the Mint Museum.

9/11 Charlotte Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Charlotte recently held its 20th Annual 9/11 Rotary Scholarship Golf Tournament on September 19th at the Pine Lake Country Club. Proceeds go for Scholarships to the children of Charlotte / Mecklenburg’s First Responders. Since its inception in 2002, the program has raised $775,000 and given approximately 150 four-year scholarships

SERVING HOMELESS on CHRISTMAS MORNING

For more than a decade, Charlotte Rotarians have served breakfast on Christmas morning to 300 to 400 homeless individuals and families at the Charlotte Rescue Mission.  Club member Anthony Marciano, the Charlotte Rescue Mission’s President / CEO developed the idea and it has been a hit every year.

CLASSROOM CENTRAL

Under the leadership of club member John Johnson and others, the Classroom Central dream began in early 2000.  A team of local business leaders set out to provide free supplies to children living in poverty.   Charlotte Rotary has been actively participating ever since.  Every week Charlotte Rotarians are helping to stock the shelves and distribute needed school supplies to teachers, so they don’t have to pay for these out of their own pockets.

COINS FOR ALZHEIMERS RESEARCH TRUST

CART was founded in 1995 by Rotarians, and has raised millions of dollars for research for the prevention and cure of the Alzheimer’s Disease.  Charlotte Rotary has been a major donor every year.
