Dee Dee Murphy, a third-generation native of Charlotte, is the Executive Director of Leadership Charlotte, an independent not-for-profit organization which has enhanced community volunteer leadership for 26 years. Her passions are the arts and children's issues. Have you noticed children at the polls when you vote? Dee Dee founded Kids Voting in Mecklenburg County, expanded the program to Guilford and Wake counties, and worked for the national staff for six years. She coordinated the fund drives for the Afro-American Cultural Center restoration project and the first Jimmy Carter work project for Habitat for Humanity in Belmont. Dee Dee is a long-time docent at the Mint Museum of Art, co-chair of Southern Summit, a member of the Board of Directors for the national Community Leadership Association, and Secretary of the Board of the Well of Mercy, a facility for a rest and renewal. Ask her to tell you about this wonderful place!

Her son and daughter-in-law live in Atlanta, where he is a rookie police officer and her daughter just started law school. She has an adorable six-month old grandson who she wishes lived in Charlotte.

þ Tony Marciano, Charlotte Rescue Mission, is still glowing from last week's visit to Washington. His staff and clients, with the TV tuned to C-SPAN, watched as Tony delivered the opening prayer to the US House of Representatives on Thursday. He was also able to explain the good works of the Mission to several key Congressmen, including Mark Sounder and Sue Myrick, and staffers from Senator Burr's office and the White House. Busy day!

ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP
GOLF CLASSIC

103 golfers were all smiles as the carts scattered onto the course at Cedarwood Country Club. No need to worry that the thirty minute rain shower would dampen the spirits or ruin a great day outdoors. A big round of applause goes to the golf committee for their hard work in putting this year's tournament together: Alan Adler, Chip Scholz, Chris Kemper, Tom Senger, Paul Schmidt, Leigh Derby, Mick Goodfellow, Martin Grable, Tom Robertson, Mary Ciminelli, Herb Harriss, Sandy Osborne, Anne Bridgeman, Carol Chavis, Dave Adams, Bob Freeman, Robert Freeman, Bill Bradley, Bert Voswinkel, Joe Penner, Luther Fincher, Darrel Stephens, and Gregg Walker. And a special thanks to those that played golf, purchased ads, tee signs, sponsorship packages, cash contributions, and provided raffle, auction or goody bag items. Start thinking how you can support next year's event!
