Jim Appleby

Jim Appleby welcomes visiting Rotarians and guests on 2/16/99. Appleby joined Charlotte Rotary in 1987, is a Paul Harris Fellow, and served as Club president during 1996-1997. He is currently chairman of our Projects Committee.

He is a Paul Harris Fellow (2d Level). Glasgow joined in 1995, is a retired physician, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Lane joined Charlotte Rotary in 1973 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

(Left to right): Henry H. Bostic, Jr., James "Jim" Wright, and Fred T. Lowrance on 2/16/99.  Bostic joined Charlotte Rotary in 1982 and is both a Paul Harris Fellow and a Benefactor. Wright joined the Club in 1998. He is president of Opera Carolina and recently brought the stars of Don Giovanni opera to sing at our Club. Lowrance joined Charlotte Rotary in 1983 and is a Paul Harris Fellow (Level 2). He served as president during 1997-1998.

Paul Buck Drive in front of the Charlotte Coliseum is named for him. Larson joined the Club in 1974 and is Senior Active. His son, Colonel Frank P. Larson, a 1975 graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, is currently the U.S. Army Attache at United States Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.  Henderson joined Charlotte Rotary in 1960 and served as president during 1968-1969.

(Left to right): Miss Jane Hobaugh, Andrew S. Fair, and Marilynn Bowler on 2/16/99. Jane Hobaugh represented the Interact Club at Myers Park High School at today's luncheon. Fair joined Charlotte Rotary in 1998 and is with WDAV Radio, Davidson College's widely-enjoyed FM radio station.  Bowler join the Club in 1996, currently serves on the Public Relations Committee, and authored today's Report of Meeting.

Loftin, the acknowledged historian of the Club, joined in 1970.  He is a Paul Harris Fellow (Level 2) and served as president during 1986-1987. He publishes the Club's weekly bulletin "Charlotte Reporter". Wood is the much-beloved Pastor of First Presbyterian Church. He joined Charlotte Rotary in 1984 and served as president during 1992-1993. Everyone was delighted to welcome Bill Loftin back after his recent illness and convalescence in the hospital.

Young joined Charlotte Rotary in 1992 and works with the UNC Charlotte Athletic Foundation. Kizer joined in 1995 and currently serves on our Rotary Foundation Scholarships Committee. Brooks, a new member of Charlotte Rotary, gave an excellent invocation today.

Dr. Kathryn Johnson and Rev. Bill Wood on 2/16/99. Johnson was today's program speaker on the topic "Islam in America" (See summary of her speech in "Report of Meeting of February 16, 1999"). She is a professor at UNC Charlotte. Wood gave an outstanding introduction.

Charlotte Rotary's Youth Services Committee

Charlotte Rotary's Youth Services Committee meets after
luncheon on 2/16/99.

their duties is the planning of our annual luncheon program to
honor outstanding graduating seniors from public and private
high schools in Charlotte.
