RICK
SCHOU
American Red Cross
by Jeannie Falknor
Rick Schou, disaster services manager of the American Red Cross,
Carolinas Chapter, urged everyone to have a disaster plan for both
their families and their businesses.
He pointed out that Red Cross staff members are happy to come to
businesses to help them design a plan focusing on human resources,
physical resources and continuity of business operation.
He urged everyone to:
Think about how a disaster could affect your employees, customers
and workplace.
Think about how you could continue doing business if the area around
your facility is closed or streets are impassable.
Think about what you would need to serve your customers even if your
facility is closed.
Schou mentioned such tips as designating an office number employees
can call to get a recorded message in times of emergency, have a
plan for backup of computer data, have a battery operated radio
handy and designate one employee from each shift to be a safety
coordinator.
For families, Schou said it is important to have a plan that
includes an agreed upon location where separated family members can
meet, learn how to turn off all utilities at your home, have
emergency contact information handy and put copies of important
family documents in a fire-safe container.
In addition, he said it is important to have an emergency supply kit
that includes water, food, first aid materials, medications, cash
and other personal items that might be essential for family members.
Said Schou, “Every business and family needs a disaster plan.”

Membership Update |
|
You may be wondering about the
number of resignations that have occurred this year – 23 to
be exact. There have been 4 to leave due to health issues; 4
have been transferred with their company; and the remaining
15 are basically due to time commitment/job
responsibilities. President Catherine has committed to
bringing in 10 new members this year. If you have a friend
or co-worker that you think would add value to Charlotte
Rotary, contact the Rotary office for an application. |
