YOUTH MERIT AWARDS
By Jim Kothe
Today we held our annual Merit Awards Program for
an impressive group of high school seniors from Charlotte's public
and private schools. Each merit recipient received a plaque and a
$500 scholarship for college expenses. Gene Bratek, of Providence
Day School, presented the winners from the private schools, with
Arch McIntosh, Charlotte Latin, assisting. The public school winners
were presented by Frances Haithcock of CMS, with assistance from
school board member, Coach Joe White.
Each student had an impressive record of achievement in high school,
with a well-rounded variety of interests. Listening to these
students speak about their choice of college and their planned field
of study illustrated that while this is a group of high achievers,
it is also a group with diverse interests and plans for the future.
