The Gala was
great and Bert has lots of good pictures to prove it.
Herb arranged for
Powell & Dot Majors to be
picked up by limo and driven over to the club in style. A
few friends, Martin Waters, Bert
Voswinkel, and Sandra &
Luther Moore also shared the ride. Thank goodness
Powell is a partying kind of guy…the ladies were standing in
line to dance with him. Dot didn't mind sharing her man at
all! Thomas Moore was
presented the Four Avenues of Service Citation for
Individual Rotarians from Rotary International. To be
eligible for this award, the nominee must have consistently
demonstrated support of the Object of Rotary through
participation in service activities in each of the four
Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, and
International. Congratulations to Thomas! And the last bit
of business was to recognize Biff
and Joanna Virkler's
daughter, Justine Treadwell,
a recipient of the Echo Foundation's first Echo Young Hero
of Hope award. Justine has worked with AIDS victims in the
Republic of Malawi, and most recently works with the Global
AIDS Program of the federal Centers for Disease Control in
Tanzania. Justine is quite an accomplished 26 year old. The
rest of the evening was for socializing and dancing. From
what was observed - everyone had a ball.

DGE Joe Morris
will conduct an informational meeting following Rotary next
Tuesday, March 7th, for those wishing to learn how to become
personally involved in Rotary projects in other countries.
If you are unable to make the meeting on the 7th, the
information will be repeated on March 21st.
þ
The Habitat project kicks off March 2nd. Those wishing to
volunteer may sign up
here.
þ
President Elect Luther Moore
is building his leadership team for the upcoming Rotary
year. Please give Luther a call if you are interested in
serving as an Avenue or committee chairperson.
þ
Elsie Garner presented
Senator Richard Burr with the collection of oral histories
of WWII veterans to be placed in the Library of Congress.
Richard Bailey says there
is a good chance the collection will receive a National
Recognition Award.
þ
From the Papers: Pat and
B.D. Rodgers were among Upper Level Members
attending an opening at the Mint Museums;
Charlie Greer provided a
glance at how Greer & Walker accounting services help
balance family finances with CFO-type services;
Ralston and
Deanie Pound celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary on February 16th.

UNDERSTANDING
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION |
Annual
Programs Fund: Contributions to the Annual
Programs Fund are invested for three years pending
expenditure on programs. Income earned from these
investments pays for all the Foundation's program
operations, fund development, and administrative expenses.
Therefore, every annual giving dollar contributed to the
Foundation is available for its programs approximately three
years later.
Permanent Fund:
The Trustees established The Rotary Foundation for World
Understanding and Peace in 1982. It was renamed the
Permanent Fund in 1994. The purpose of the Permanent Fund is
to provide a permanent source of income to support
Foundation programs. Only a portion of the earnings
generated by investments is used to support Foundation
programs; the principal is never spent. Donors are assured
that their gifts will work in perpetuity by a spending
policy that ensures that the real value of Permanent Fund
assets is preserved over time.
Sustaining Member:
An individual who contributes, or in whose name is
contributed, a minimum of $100 with the stated intention of
becoming a Paul Harris Fellow by contributing at least
$1,000. Contributions are credited to an individual's Paul
Harris Sustaining Membership upon request.
Paul Harris Fellow:
Paul Harris Fellow Recognition was created in memory of the
founder of Rotary as a way to show appreciation for
contributions to the Foundation's humanitarian and
educational programs. A Paul Harris Fellow is an individual
who contributes, or in whose name or memory is contributed,
$1,000. All Paul Harris Fellows receive a pin, medallion and
certificate that identify them as advocates of the
Foundation's goals of world peace and understanding.
Benefactor: A
Benefactor is anyone who informs the Foundation in writing
that he or she has made provision in a will or other estate
planning benefiting The Rotary Foundation's Permanent Fund,
or who directs an outright gift of at least $1,000
specifically to the Permanent Fund.
Major Donor: The Rotary Foundation recognizes as a Major
Donor any individual who makes an outright or cumulative
contribution of $10,000 or more to either the Annual
Programs Fund or the Permanent Fund. |
