MARY
TRIBBLE
President
Tribble Creative Group
By: Susan Hutchins
Mary Tribble of Tribble Creative Group was the guest speaker for the
Charlotte Rotary Club’s August 19th meeting. Mary is a certified,
award-winning event planner who established her own firm in 1985 and has
been facilitating corporate and community events in Charlotte since that
time. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 1982 with a degree in Art
History and has been recognized with numerous awards including Businesswoman
of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year. Mary also co-founded the Forum for
Public Conscience with Chris William; an inaugural event held in March 2003
in which 150 CEO’s of major companies participated. Her remarks focused on
the how the Forum was founded, the process followed for the weekend event
and the outcomes achieved.
The Forum was based on the concept of sustainability, looking at how a
corporation can sustain itself in the market place in which it
resides--enlightened self-interest in the best sense. The weekend event
brought CEO’s together from across the country to discuss how corporations
perform in six key areas: economics, leadership, justice, environment,
community and family. Hugh McColl agreed to chair the conference, and David
Gergen served as moderator. Guest speakers, including Warren Buffett, Paul
Hawkin and Tom Wolfe, provided keynote addresses with a focus on the future,
which was followed by small group discussions around the six topics.
Activists in each of the six key areas participated in the small group
discussions with the CEO’s leading to some vigorous debate. CEO’s could shop
the topics on Saturday morning, but in the afternoon they were asked to
“declare a major” to focus on for the rest of the weekend. On Saturday
evening, a PBS television show was filmed, which was hosted by Chris
William, and will be nationally televised sometime this fall. On Sunday
morning, the CEO’s reached consensus on 13 collective intentions they
committed to work on with their respective companies. The inaugural forum
was so successful that Mary has plans to replicate the forums in other
cities across the country. Currently the 150 CEO’s are being surveyed to
determine what follow-up actions have been taken in response to the
collective intentions. There is an event planned for October 20 at the
Weston Hotel to announce the survey results and the future plans for the
forum. Mary closed with an anecdote from her recent trip to Tibet recounting
the story of the three Buddhas that stand for wisdom, compassion and power
and realizing that they were the perfect tenants for the Forum since you
need all three to make a difference in the world.
Two new members were welcomed into the club. Dick Roberts with SouthTrust
Bank was introduced by his long-time friend David Anderson, and Townley Moon
with the Duke Mansion was introduced by Catherine Browning.

The 4-Way Test |
|
Ralston Pound wants everyone
to know the history of the 4-Way Test, but decided to just drop a little
clue…it was invented in 1932 by a man who later became president of RI.
Your challenge this week is to talk to an older member to find out the
rest of the story.
-
Is it the
TRUTH?
-
Is it
FAIR to all concerned?
-
Will it build GOODWILL and better Friendships?
-
Will it
be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
