Mike Almond, Charlotte Regional Partnership Charlotte Rotarys guest speaker, Michael Almond, is President of the Charlotte Regional Partnership (CRP). Charlotte Regional Partnerships mission is to be the development and marketing consortium for the sixteen-county region (four of those counties being in South Carolina). For economic development, they pursue a regional approach that highlights all the assets of the Charlotte region as it can better compete nationally and internationally and lure companies looking to relocate to build U.S. facilities.
Mike Almond introduces the new logo to Charlottes premier business organization, the Rotary Club of Charlotte. Mr. Almond stated that the economic situation for the region is challenging. 60,000 jobs were lost in manufacturing alone in our area last year. The CRP is focusing on four things:
The prospects are very good for this region. The Roper Study, commissioned by CRP, compared how Charlotte measured up to Tampa, Raleigh, Atlanta, and Nashville, all vying for corporate relocations; the study found that the Charlotte region surpasses these other cities in quality of life. However, there are tough and unforgiving global standards that must be met, and incentives will need to be included in any negotiations with major companies. Guests &Visitors: Pete deWitt; Health & Happiness, Tom Hutchins; Song, Chuck Lineberry; Invocation, Katie Tyler. Head Table: Doug Bean, Lou Solomon, John Nicolay, Tony Zeiss, Mary-Stuart Brooks. * * * |
