ROTARY
DISTRICT 7680
GOVERNOR BILL WILSON

by Rick Jackson

District Governor Bill Wilson, from the Greater Statesville Rotary addressed The Charlotte Rotary Club, Tuesday August 9th, with a message of optimism and participation.

Using the messages of fellow Rotarians whose exemplary leadership have contributed so much to the first century of Rotary, he implored our group to volunteer our support to those projects where each of us can best be used as instruments of hope, healing and brotherhood. Paul Harris lived his vision of philanthropy as did fellow Rotarians Carl Wilheim, Marion Bunch and John Bosworth - fighting hunger, disease, famine, polio, aids and responding with the urgent needs of those who have suffered through war and natural disasters.

Rotary has proven to be the greatest service organization in the world. Bill reminded us of this legacy and our responsibility to continue this critical work and tradition as we enter our second century of Rotary.

In a moment of inspiration, Bill quoted the lyrics of, "Dream the Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha as a way to elevate each of us in our purpose of service above self. His final quote of eight, two-letter words, punctuated his message of giving, volunteering and involvement, "If it is to be, it is up to me."

þ The Student Exchange Committee is making big plans for Paz Tovar, the exchange student scheduled to arrive from Colombia on August 19th. Host families are in place except for the period covering December through February. Please contact Ed Wadsworth, ed@wadsworthgroup.net or 704-895-3435 if you are able to help. Though things went well with last year's exchange student, the committee is working to ensure an even more positive experience, as well as more club interaction for Paz. You'll be seeing her at the head table or serving as a greeter. And club members will be asked to 'adopt' her for Christmas. Stay tuned for more surprises, suggestions, and opportunities for you to get to know Paz.

þ Governor Bill Wilson honored the club's newest Paul Harris Fellow, Chuck Lew, with his certificate, medallion, and lapel pin by asking all Paul Harris Fellows in the audience to stand. Congratulations and Thank You, Chuck.

þ If you have not yet paid your 1st Quarter invoice, your account is 30 days past due. Immediate payment is appreciated.
